Greek textile industry turnover index dips 1.3% in July'13

The turnover index of textile industry in Greece for the month of July 2013 has incurred a slight decline of 1.3 percent year-on-year, according to the data released by Greek Statistical Authority.

The turnover index of wearing apparel also declined by 15.5 percent in the month of July compared to the same period in 2012.

According to the data, the industrial production index of textiles in the country dipped by 8.5 percent year-on-year for the month of July 2013, and in the wearing apparel sector it decreased by 26.5 percent compared to the same period last year.

However, the new orders index of textile industry observed a mild increase of 0.6 percent year-on-year in the same month, but it declined by 15.1 percent in the wearing apparel sector for the month of July, compared to the same month in 2012.

All the three indices are compiled monthly by the Greek Statistical Authority, in order to evaluate the monthly activity in the industrial sector of the country, as well as to assess the future evolution of demand for goods and services from the industrial sector.

Meanwhile, according to the data released by Hellenic Fashion Industry Association (APR), the performance of the Greek textile and apparel industry improved during the first half of 2013, compared to the same period last year.

From January to June 2013, garment sector production increased 2.4 percent year-on-year. Although the textile sub-sector production declined by 10.9 percent year-on-year, it was better than the 17.9 percent year-on-year dip registered during the same period in 2012.
