H&H Textiles, the Haiti subsidiary of Seoul, Korea based Yujin Apparel has assembled its first 500 workers this month.  The plant occupies 160,000 square feet in two modern buildings that comprise the Palmiers Free Zone, in the Carrefour subdivision of Port-au-Prince.

The Palmiers, a USD 8.5 million domestic private investment was completed 10 months ago.  H&H expects to spend a little over half that amount to complete its installations. When fully operational the 2 plants will employ 3000.

Workers at H&H textiles will join 1600 already employed in two nearby Palm Apparel plants under Alain Villard’s leadership. A total then of 4600 workers will earn about USD 1 million every month, at current wage rates.

This will derive from export to the US, exempted of duty because of HOPE-HELP and CBTPA.  Much of the wages will be spent in the Thor/Dikini community where nearly every worker resides.  There will not be much money spent on petroleum, however.  For the 70% women workforce, home is but a short walk away.
