TÜV SÜD, a leading global inspection, testing and certification provider, has launched its new testing center in Xiamen. Dr. -Ing. Axel Stepken, Chairman of the Board of Management of TÜV SÜD AG, and Mr. Dirk von Wahl, President CEO of TÜV SÜD Greater China, attended the ceremony.

As TÜV SÜD's inaugural testing facility in Fujian Province, China, specializing in the textile and footwear industry, the Xiamen testing center will partner local clients with services backed by global experience, leading industry expertise and state-of-the-art facilities.

The center aims to facilitate the transformation and upgrade of China’s consumer manufacturing industry by increasing the international competitiveness of China’s textile and footwear companies through a locally based diversified one-stop service with nationwide coverage.

During the trip, Dr. -Ing. Axel Stepken met with the leader from General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of P.R.C. (AQSIQ) and the both parties exchanged the experience in EU market entry and supervision mechanisms and TÜV SÜD’s 150 years of marketization.

Located in Tong’an District, Xiamen, the new testing center provides Chinese companies with comprehensive services, including product quality testing, supply chain detection across the entire product life cycle of footwear, textile, bags, toys and hard goods. The center is equipped with three specialized laboratories and boasts of teams of experienced technicians and advance equipment.

The one-stop laboratory will effectively help local clients reduce testing lead time and costs. The chemical laboratory is equipped with precise instruments such as GC-MS, LC-MS (Single and Triple Quadruple), AAS instrument, ICP-OES instrument, which facilitate the testing for prohibited substances based on various international and national standards and reinforce the credibility of the testing reports.

The physical laboratory features professional facilities throughout the testing site, with advanced technology in equipment and environmental controls, specialized in performance testing and quality control. The establishment of the Xiamen testing center enables TÜV SÜD to help Chinese textile and shoe manufacturers access global market, better meet the needs of global consumers, and consequently build distinguished brands, strengthening their international competitiveness.

Dr. -Ing Axel Stepken, Chairman of the Board of Management, TÜV SÜD AG said, “The opening of our new testing facility here in Xiamen is another important milestone in our internationalisation strategy. China is a key element of our Asia strategy and we have always believed in the outstanding development of this market and the opportunities it offers for our company.”

China’s export market of textile and footwear products has enjoyed a steady growth throughout 2013, witnessing an increase in export share to the EU. However, updates of the technical regulations by EU and US authorities are driving up the market entry threshold.
