Turkey's UTIB hosts textiles R&D conference in Bursa

The Uludag Textile Exporters Association of Turkey (UTIB) recently held its 6th edition of the textile and garment sector research and development (R&D) conference in the city of Bursa, with a view to promote training and research in the textiles as well as technical textiles sector of the country.

According to a statement issued by UTIB, organized since 2009, the 'UTIB Textile and Garment Sector R&D Project Market' meeting is organized with an intention to provide a platform for interactive developments and innovations as well as to take important initiatives for the textile and apparel sector of the country.

Yusuf Ulcay, professor at the Uludag University, said R&D is vital for manufacturing of new and innovative value-added products in the industry with the aim of sustainable production, quality and standards, as well as lowering the cost of development of new techniques and technologies for production.

The 6th edition of the R&D meet saw participation from 2,500 people from various fields of textiles and apparel and the objective of hosting the conference is to provide these people with the necessary information required for innovations and new developments in the sector, he added.

In terms of technical textiles, Mr. Ulcay said the technical textiles sector from the European Union (EU) managed to generate revenue of €171 billion, and Turkey’s technical textiles sector needs to learn from this and take vital steps to boost production.

Technical textiles is developing day by day and accordingly it is important to increase R&D resources in the sector to meet with the growing demand for technical textile products, and significant gains could be achieved if appropriate measures are taken to build a strong R&D center for technical textiles in the country, he added.
