Acrylonitrile prices fall in global markets last fortnight

The prices of acrylonitrile (ACN) decreased in global markets in the last fortnight ending November 30, 2013, due to weak regional buying sentiments coupled with bearish downstream demand trends and a drop in feedstock prices.

In the US market, average ACN price was US$ 1685/ton in the last fortnight, down 1.17 percent compared to the average price of US$ 1705/ton in the previous fortnight ending November 15.

Similarly, in Europe, the average ACN price fell to US$ 1765/ton in the last fortnight, a decrease of 1.67 percent compared to the average price of US$ 1795/ton in the previous fortnight.

In the first half of the last fortnight ending November 30, selling offers for ACN declined in the Chinese domestic market and were offered in the range of RMB 13,350/ton to RMB 13,400/ton, which received counter offers in the range of RMB 13,360/ton to RMB 13,380/ton. In the second half of the fortnight, selling offers for ACN decreased due to poor feedstock prices and were in the range of RMB 12,800/ton to RMB 12,900/ton.

In Far East Asia, average ACN price declined by 1.08 percent to US$ 1835/ton in the last fortnight, as against the average price of US$ 1855/ton in the previous fortnight. The declining trend continued in the first week of December and the price was assessed at US$ 1805/ton on December 5, 2013.

In Southeast Asia, average ACN price was US$ 1830/ton in the last fortnight, down 0.81 percent from the previous fortnight’s average price of US$ 1845/ton. Price declined further to US$ 1805/ton on December 5.

The average ACN price in the month of November 2013 in Southeast Asia was US$ 1835/ton, showing a decline of 9.48 percent year-on-year and 2.19 percent month-on-month.
