SOCAR gets land for new petrochem complex in Azerbaijan

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) has been allotted land for the construction of the new oil and gas refinery and petrochemical complex (OGPC), in the capital city of Baku.

According to SOCAR, the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan has given a positive reply to the appeal of allotment of land for the construction of the OGPC complex by the company, reports Azerbaijani news agency APA.

The SOCAR has been allotted 4,200 hectares of land, under the relevant orders of the Mayor’s office of Baku and the Absheron district executive power, near the Sangachal Terminal in the south of the capital city.

SOCAR has been conducting talks for emptying the area with the representatives of Baku Telephone Communication Production Unit of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies, Azersu OSC, Azerigaz and Bakuelekrikshebeke OSC, which currently have communication lines, water pipes and gas pipes passing through the area, and designing measures would be undertaken with these bodies after which construction companies would transfer these lines and pipes.

Earlier this week, SOCAR had announced that along with the State Committee on Standardization, Metrology and Patents of Azerbaijan, it would be developing new national standards for the upcoming OGPC in Baku.

The construction of the OGPC in Baku is estimated to cost around US$ 17 billion, and the complex is expected to begin operations between 2018 and 2020. The implementation period for the first stage of the project is two years and the overall duration of the project is of eight years.

The OGPC complex would have a petrochemical enterprise which would have an annual production capacity of 17 million tons of finished products.
