Turkey's Gaziantep exports textile goods to China: GSO

Textile products manufactured in the southeastern Turkish city Gaziantep are exported to many countries, including China, said Gaziantep Chamber of Industry (GSO) chairman Adil Konukoglu.
 
According to the GSO chairman, the southeastern Turkish city has been contributing majorly to the textile industry of the country, especially in terms of employment and exports, reports memleket.com.tr.
 
Investments are also increasing in the textile sector of the city, as many firms are seeking opportunities to invest in the textile industry of Gaziantep, due to its potential to grow, he added.
 
The GSO chairman said that textile exports from the city have also diversified, owing to the research and development (R&D) efforts taken up by manufacturers to produce value-added textile goods. Earlier, textile exports from the city used to constitute of only cotton yarn.
 
According to Mr. Konukoglu, the textile and apparel industry of Turkey is largest exporter of textile goods in Europe and in order to maintain the sector’s position it is necessary that manufacturers operating in the textile and apparel industry of the country restructure their manufacturing process to stay competitive in international markets.
 
Cotton and textiles are amongst the major production activities of Gaziantep, with the textile industry of the city exporting products worth US$ 950 million in 2012, and apparel sector exporting goods worth US$ 98 million during the same year.
