An exhibit exploring the influence and history of Twentieth century European and American art movements in textiles is set to open at London’s centre of contemporary fashion and textiles, the Fashion and Textile Museum (FTM).

Slated to be held from January 31 to May 17, 2014, the event aims to highlight the personal and intimate ways through which ordinary people could engage themselves with modern art in that era.

Dubbed as ‘Artist Textiles Picasso to Warhol’, the exhibit will feature more than 200 never-seen-before fabric designs inspired from key artistic movements, which took place between 1910 to the end of 20th century, like Fauvism, Cubism, Constructivism, Abstraction, Surrealism and Pop Art.

The to-be-featured items would include both clothing and home furnishings from the key artists of that time, such as Georges Braque, Alexander Calder, Marc Chagall, Salvador Dalí, Sonia Delaunay, Raoul Dufy, Barbara Hepworth, Fernand Léger, Henri Matisse, Joan Miró, Henry Moore, Pablo Picasso, Ben Nicholson and Andy Warhol.

Curated by Geoff Rayner and Richard Chamberlain, the exhibit will also feature designs from leading fashion designers and manufacturers.
