Indian state Kerala to host coir fair from February 1

The South Indian state of Kerala is all set to host the 4th edition of the international coir and natural fibres trade event ‘Coir Kerala 2014’ from February 1 to 5, in the city of Alappuzha.

The event organized by the Department of Coir Development, under the government of Kerala, is aimed at exploring and expanding the international market for coir products from Kerala and to encourage use of latest machinery and technology in the coir production sector.

The event will bring together all segments of the coir industry from across the world and provide a platform to comprehensively evaluate the current global trends, innovations in applications of coir, opportunities and challenge, research and development, new technologies and more.

Inaugurating the reception committee office of the fair, Kerala Minister for Revenue and Coir Adoor Prakash said the state government is committed to creating more jobs in the sector and improve conditions of the thousands of people employed in the sector.

Coir Kerala 2014 would be receiving a financial assistance to the tune of Rs. 17.5 million from the Central Government, Mr. Prakash added.

Exhibitors at the event would display various products under the coir sector, including natural fibre products, value-added range of coir products, latest technologies in coir-processing and machinery, and more.

As part of the event, several seminars would also be organized focusing on the assessment of applications of coir and scope of combining it with other natural fibres, innovations in technologies and products, as well as foretelling upcoming trends and market changes in the coir industry.
