India’s textile sector recorded a rise of 66,000 jobs in the July-September 2013 quarter, says the Ministry of Labour’s latest quarterly survey, reports Financial Express.

The textile sector increased its bench strength to benefit from the weak rupee and to bag more export orders.

The increase in new jobs in the textile sector was 46.15 percent of the 143,000 total jobs created during the quarter, as per the report based on the survey of 2,303 units.

Significantly, the total increase in textile jobs was in direct employment, whereas 22,000 of the total 143,000 jobs created overall were contractual jobs.

Moreover, about 41,000 or 62 percent of all jobs created in the textiles sector during the quarter were in the export-oriented units.

The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) showed the textiles sector production rising by 3.7 percent compared to a 0.2 percent contraction seen in the total industrial production during April-November 2013 period.
