Ethylene prices rise in Asia and Europe last fortnight

The prices of ethylene increased in Asian and European markets in the last fortnight ending January 15, 2014, due to bullish upstream energy market and continued tight supplies, whereas they stayed stable in US due to mute buying sentiments.
 
In Japan, the average ethylene price in the last fortnight was US$ 1410/ton, an increase of 11.46 percent compared to the average price of US$ 1265/ton in the same fortnight last year, and a rise of 5.22 percent over the average price of US$ 1340/ton in the previous fortnight ending December 31, 2013.
 
In F E Asia, the average price of ethylene was US$ 1425/ton in the last fortnight, up 3.64 percent compared to the average price of US$ 1375/ton in the previous fortnight. 
 
In S E Asia, the average price of ethylene was US$ 1485/ton in the last fortnight, up 3.13 percent compared to the previous fortnight’s average price of US$ 1440/ton. On January 21, 2014, ethylene price was assessed at US$ 1480/ton.
 
In Europe, the average price of ethylene in the last fortnight was US$ 1325/ton, showing a rise of 5.16 percent over the average price of US$ 1260/ton recorded in the previous fortnight. On January 20, the price of ethylene was quoted at US$ 1325/ton. Ethylene contractual prices for January settled at € 1240/ton FD N W Europe, which represents a rise of € 15/ton from December levels.
 
In US, ethylene price remained steady at 58 cents/pound in the last fortnight.
