Colombiatex closes with $266.9mn business expectations

The Colombiatex of the Americas fair, which concluded recently in the Colombian city of Medellin, is expected to generate business of about US$ 266.9 million through follow-ups of the contacts established at the fair, states the Institute for Export and Fashion of Colombia (INEXMODA).
According to a statement issued by INEXMODA, the business expected after the current edition of the fair is 75 percent more than the business generated during last edition.
Over 26,149 visitors attended the three-day textile trade fair, including 1,760 international buyers from 41 different countries, as well as 9,168 domestic buyers. 
Nearly 500 exhibitors from countries like Colombia, India, Spain, Brazil, Mexico, Pakistan, Ecuador, Peru, Singapore, Italy, USA, Turkey, Portugal, among others displayed their products at the trade show.
Entrepreneurs from the Pacific Alliance nations comprising of Latin American countries such as Peru, Chile, Mexico as well as Colombia, also participated in the fair, which extended a special invitation to entrepreneurs from these nations, in order to demonstrate to them the benefits of textile and apparel sector for creating a trading bloc and strengthening the markets of the allied countries.
Carlos Eduardo Botero, CEO of INEXMODA, said the Colombiatex fair demonstrated the relevance of the textile and apparel sector to the Pacific Alliance, and more than 87 percent of the overall buyers who attended the fair were from the Pacific Alliance nations.
Of the total $266.9 million business expectations generated during the fair, $140 million are expected from the transactions involving these nations, he added.
Around $106.2 million business is expected to be generated from the group of international buyers brought to the fair by the Colombian agency for Promotion of Tourism, Investment and Exports (Proexport) through an international mission.
