ZDHC unveils chemical disclosure methodology study results

Several countries and regional authorities have implemented the Right-to-Know principle using PRTRs, including:  Australia, Canada, Chile, European Union, Japan, Mexico, Norway, Switzerland and the United States of America. Cambodia and Thailand are currently developing PRTRs.

Chemical compliance enforcement may improve PRTR performance.

PRTRs require the involvement of multiple stakeholders (government, private sector and the public) and would meet one of the ZDHC key principles of engaging stakeholders to improve the apparel and footwear supply chain system.

The Office of Economic Co-Operation and Development PRTR Task Force is currently assessing opportunities to harmonise the information of different PRTRs currently in use.

This Right-to-Know Chemical Methodology Disclosure Research report (available at the ROADMAP TO ZERO WEB SITE) is another critical programme milestone in support of achieving zero discharge of hazardous chemicals across the product life cycle by 2020. The ZDHC Group intends to release a Manufacturer's Restricted Substance List and prioritisation framework in the coming months.
