ACN prices increase in Southeast Asia last fortnight

The prices of acrylonitrile (ACN) increased in Southeast Asian markets last fortnight ending March 15, 2014, compared to the previous fortnight ending February 28. However, prices decreased in other global markets during the fortnight.

In Southeast Asia, the average price of ACN in the last fortnight was US$ 2010/ton, which was an increase of 0.25 percent over the previous fortnight’s average price of $2005/ton. The upward trend continued after the fortnight and ACN price was assessed at $2025/ton on March 22, 2014.

On a year-on-year basis, too, the ACN price increased in Southeast Asia, as the average price of $2010/ton in the last fortnight was 0.5 percent higher than the average price of $2000/ton recorded during the corresponding fortnight of last year.

In Far East Asia, the average price of ACN decreased by 0.24 percent last fortnight to $2055/ton, compared to the previous fortnight’s average price of $2060/ton, due to ample product availability in the region. The declining trend continued further and ACN price was assessed at $2040/ton on March 22.

In the US market, the average ACN price was $1920/ton in the last fortnight, showing a decrease of 1.54 percent over the previous fortnight’s average price of $1950/ton, due to weak downstream demand.

In Europe, the average ACN price in the last fortnight was $1865/ton, which was a decline of 2.36 percent over the average price of $1910/ton in the previous fortnight, owing to bearish buying sentiments coupled with ample product availability.
