ICEX documents textile labeling regulations in China

The Spanish Institute of Foreign Trade (ICEX) has released a document on textile labeling regulations, sizing and safety for exporting to China. The document is in Spanish language and has been prepared by Miguel Angel Perez, under the supervision of the Economic and Commercial Office, Embassy of Spain in Beijing.

The document provides a general introduction to the requirements and regulations regarding labeling, sizing and safety regulations of textiles in China. However, it does not replace in any way the content of laws and technical standards on which it is based, and therefore it is an advisory text.

When exporting textiles to China, compliance with the Chinese regulations is vital, as if there is any discrepancy in the composition of materials, for example, the exported textiles and garments could be held by the Customs, which would entail an economic cost to the importer, says the author in Introduction to the document.

Although part of the rules and symbols for textiles in China are based on ISO international standards, there are certain characteristics that are important to account when preparing the labeling of a product meant for export to China.

In case of garments, their sizing is a very important element to be considered and it is necessary to adapt, as the clothing sizing in China differs slightly from the European.

The last updates to the regulations and standards relating to textiles were issued between 2008 and 2010, but it is essential to take into account of the possibility that changes might come in the future.
