According to a statement issued by the government of Puno region, the participation of the alpaca artisans from the region was organized under the Craft Project with the aim of showcasing their products to international buyers and establishing business contacts with them.
Peruvian designer Jose Miguel Valdivia, who showcased his alpaca garments collection at the event, said the alpaca fibre industry has created several jobs in the region, and the demand for garments made from alpaca have been constantly increasing in the international market.
The designer added that clothing made from alpaca in Puno has been achieving remarkable success in fashion capitals of the world such as New York, Paris and Seoul, and artisans in the region are getting more and more employment opportunities.
The Peruvian designer informed that during the three-day fair which gathered more than 9,000 visitors from 45 different countries, alpaca artisans from Puno managed to establish business contacts with buyers from Brazil, Russia and France.
