Wool commands high prices in last six months - BWMB

As the shearing season gets underway the British Wool Marketing Board (Board) says strong auction sales throughout the current selling season bodes well for producer returns in the coming twelve months.
 
Board Chairman Malcolm Corbett said, “proactive management of the Board’s auction sales has ensured a strong demand in the past six months, and with just 1.6 m kg of the 2013 clip left to sell is likely to enter the 2014 selling season with no carry over at all.”
 
"Demand has been high, especially in the last six months, with sales in the last few weeks achieving clearances of 100%, at higher prices than have been seen all season," he explained.
 
"No matter what the type of wool, it is well sought after as a tightening global supply is driving demand from all sectors."
 
“The effect of this strong market is that the average price of wool achieved by your Board is significantly higher than last year (average 34%)”, added Mr Corbett.
 
“Through its unique grading and testing procedures your Board will take advantage of the positive trading conditions, as a result of strong demand and limited supply, in the new season to achieve the highest possible price for our producers” said Mr Corbett.
