NWGA theme on 'Wool: Enterprise for next decade'

The theme for the 85th National Wool Growers Congress, was " Wool: The Enterprise for the next decade". The guest speakers were outstanding and political, economical, production and farming related issues were highlighted by leaders in their fields. Awards were given to the top wool farmers, for outstanding performances in a very competitive environment.
 
The congress invited Dr Herman Mashaba, to speak about his business career and he announced his political plans for the future. Prof Mohammad Karaan spoke about the Wool industry and how to achieve goals in farming.
 
The Chairman’s Annual report commented on the milestones reached during the past year and the increase of 4.2% in wool production. He also warned against high debt levels and urged farmers to embrace new technology in their businesses. Silver ram awards were given to Olivia Sigidi, SZ Ntshakaza and Johannes Klopper and Mr Leon de Beer received a long service award.
 
The best economically classed clip and best producers in the communal areas were also awarded during congress. Dr. Piet Croukamp spoke about the importance of technology and highlighted political and economical trends in our society. The congress also heard about the current wool garment developments and consumer demands, from Mr. Geoff Kingwill, chairman of Cape Wools SA.
 
The congress was well attended and the general consensus was that the invited speakers shared valuable information with the growers. Cape Wools SA supports the local Merino Wool industry and arranged a display of Merino wool products at the social event, sponsored by CMW.
