Global PTA use to reach 76126 thousand tons by 2020

The global consumption of purified terephthalic acid (PTA), a key raw material for the polyester industry, is estimated to touch 76126 thousand tons by 2020, according to a new report.

Worldwide PTA consumption in 2013 was 51605 thousand tons, and the global use in 2020 is estimated to increase by around 40.89 percent to a level of 76126 thousand tons, states the report “Global Polyester Value Chain Market Analysis & Forecast, 2014-2020” published by Fibre2fashion.com.

The total import of PTA in the world increased from 8686.49 thousand tons in 2004 to an estimated 11232.94 thousand tons in 2013, registering a rise of 29.32 percent. The PTA imports registered CAGR of 2.60 percent during 2004–2013 period.

At present, China is the top importer of PTA, followed by India, Brazil and Lithuania. These four nations collectively contribute around 69.05 percent of the total PTA imports in the world.
