SDC seminar on 'Sustainable Innovations in Colouration'

The Society of Dyers and Colourists - Education Charity (SDC EC) organised its National Conference on Friday, 6th June 2014 at Textiles Committee, Prabhadevi, Mumbai. The event was planned and executed by the Mumbai Chapter of SDC-EC. The theme of the conference was ‘Sustainable Innovations in Colouration'.

Over 150 delegates from Textile, Dyes & Chemicals and the Fashion industry attended the event. Faculty and students from Textile and Fashion institutes were also present.

The Chief Guest for the day was Mrs. Kiran Soni Gupta, Textile Commissioner, Ministry of Textiles, Govt. Of India, who spoke on the outlook of the Indian Textile Industry and the Importance of Sustainability.

The Keynote Speaker for the day was Prof. (Dr.) MD Teli, former Head of Department of Textiles and Dean, ICT, who spoke on how Sustainability has already begun influencing and shaping the textile industry, and spoke of certain key elements in the processing value chain where further improvements could be made in this aspect.

The technical sessions started with Panel Discussion on ‘Innovations Needed for Textiles’. Dr. S. Y. Kamat was the moderator of this panel session. Dr. M. M. Hundekar from Soft Pune, Mr Sumit Gupta – GOTS Representative in India, Dr. Ashok Athalye from M/s Atul Limited and Mr. Ketan Gandhi of L N Chemical Industries were the panelists.

The second Panel Discussion was on ‘The Present and future Sustainability in Textiles’. This session was moderated by Mr C N Sivaramakrishnan. The panelists were Mr Prasad Pant from NimkarTek Technical Services Pvt Ltd, Mr C N Guruprasad of Benninger India Limited, Dr. D. Saravanan of Bannari Amman Institute of Technology and Dr. Vishaka Karnad from Nirmala Niketan.
