Sakon Nakhon focuses on enhancing textile sector potential

Sakon Nakhon, one of the north-eastern provinces of Thailand, is focusing on enhancing the competitive potential of those involved in manufacturing of textiles, garments and handicrafts, reports National News Bureau of Thailand (NNT).
The Sakon Nakhon Chamber of Commerce, the Silpakorn University and the cluster of Isaan Art and Craft producers jointly started the programme to boost the production capacity of local textile, garment and handicraft producers about a year ago.
The joint programme includes building a database system, conducting research and development for improvement of raw materials, upgrading fabric dyeing techniques, and also implementing latest marketing strategies.
The program also focuses on enhancing the competitive ability of business operators, so that they become prepared to face increased completion once the Asean Economic Community (AEC) becomes a reality early next year.
