Gujarat leads in TUFS approvals: Textile Commissioner

The maximum number of approvals under the Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS) for the textile sector is from the Western state of Gujarat, Textile Commissioner Kiran Soni Gupta has revealed.
 
Addressing a meeting of stakeholders of the textile industry at the Ahmedabad Textile Industries Research Association (ATIRA), Ms. Gupta said that under the 15 percent margin money subsidy (MMS), 2,897 of the 3,200 applications sanctioned nationally were from Gujarat. Likewise, under the 20 percent MMS, 1,160 of the total 4,154 sanctioned applications were from Gujarat.
 
Ms. Gupta informed that the Project Approval Committee on the Modified Group Workshed Scheme (MGWSS) has approved 27 proposals from across the country, with 21 of them being from Gujarat. The 21 worksheds will involve investment of about Rs. 905.3 million and create employment opportunities for 4,500 people.
 
In addition, under the Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITPs), under which 40 percent of project cost is provided as subsidy, 61 projects have been approved from all over India, which include 8 projects from Gujarat.
 
Ms. Gupta said looms would be given on monthly rent to powerloom workers under the Hire-Purchase scheme, and looms would be transferred on the name of the workers after completion of the necessary time period. This scheme is best suited for those who want to become powerloom owners, the Textile Commissioner said.
 
She urged entrepreneurs to take advantage of the various Government schemes and also requested them to adopt modern technologies.
