More than 600 fashion brands from nearly 40 countries partook at the just held 25th edition of Colombian apparel trade fair Colombiamoda.

The Cali-based designer Johanna Ortiz featured her latest Spring-Summer 2015 womenswear collection, inspired from the free spirit of a female traveller. Titled as Native, the line was a balanced amalgamation of modern and classic as well as feminine and masculine style sensibilities.

Infused with hints of the French Riviera and Martinique island paintings by the French Post-Impressionist artist Paul Gauguin, the cotton, linen and silk crafted pieces, including skirts and figure enhancing shirts, were decorated with stripes, and floral and palm prints in shades varying from cool blue to warm reddish rose.

Camilo Alvarez, the local designer who has been a part of the trade event for over a decade now, showcased his geometrical shapes heavy collection Breakfast at the Medellin soiree. Made using textured cotton and knitted fabrics, the creations were based on a mixed palette of neutral and warm colour tones such as black, white and gray. Replete with spherical shapes reminiscent to breakfast must haves such as the round shapes of cups and eggs, the pieces were enhanced with curved and spiral silhouettes and asymmetric cuts.

In addition to the above mentioned names, the event also saw winter and spring season designs from Spanish fashion talent Custo Dalmau, the founder of Custo Barcelona brand, and an intricately detailed range from Colombian designer Carmen Belissa.

Themed as Transcending boundaries, Colombiamoda 2014 hosted about 22 lectures, based on topics like the importance of cooperation and co-creation, innovation and strategic marketing tactics, conducted by the business strategist Mauricio Salazar, Marangoni Institute’s Massimo Casagrande, the London College of Fashion’s Edwin Phiri and Netherland’s Ten Thije, who presented his case study on co-creation in Colombia.
