Culp, Inc. announced the promotion of Boyd Chumbley to Executive Vice President of Culp Upholstery Fabrics. Chumbley is responsible for management of this division, including sales, design, customer service, inventory management, global logistics and quality assurance, and will oversee the company’s international operations in China and Poland. He will report directly to Frank Saxon, president and chief executive officer.

Chumbley brings over 30 years of experience with Culp to this position. He most recently served as Senior Vice President of Operations for Culp Upholstery Fabrics and has held various senior management positions in finance, operations and manufacturing.

He joined the company in 1984 as controller for one of Culp’s upholstery plants. Chumbley holds a bachelor’s degree from Radford University. Commenting on the announcement, Saxon noted, “Boyd Chumbley brings extensive experience and knowledge of our upholstery fabrics business to this position. During his tenure with the company, we have seen significant changes in our business model as we have evolved from a primarily capital-intensive, manufacturing company to a more agile and innovative, marketing-focused business.

"During this time, we also launched our Culp China platform, which just celebrated its tenth year of operations. Boyd has played a pivotal role in this transformation of our upholstery fabrics business. With Boyd’s involvement, we have established a strong leadership position by remaining focused on what is important to our customers – creative designs, a wide range of innovative products and outstanding service.

"At the same time, we have achieved five years of consecutive growth in annual sales for upholstery fabrics. We are confident that Boyd will continue to be an important member of our leadership team as we execute our strategy in today’s global marketplace.” Culp, Inc. is one of the world's largest marketers of mattress fabrics for bedding and upholstery fabrics for furniture.

The company markets a variety of innovative fabrics to its global customer base of leading bedding and furniture companies, including fabrics produced at Culp’s manufacturing facilities and fabrics sourced from other suppliers. Culp has operations located in the United States, Canada, China and Poland.
