In conjunction with the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectorial Association (ECCSA) and with support from the Embassy of India in Ethiopia, Indian textiles trade body, the Synthetic and Rayon Textiles Promotion Council (SRTPC) organized a two-day exhibition of Indian textiles in Addis Abba.

20 Indian textile companies took part in the exhibition by displaying their man-made textile (MMF) products for Ethiopian buyers of textiles.

“Through this expo, we aim to strengthen trade between India and Ethiopia, particularly in the fastest growing man-made textiles segment. This is a unique platform for Ethiopian buyers to meet, connect, develop and seek new business opportunities with Indians”, Srijubi Roy, Joint Director at SRTPC said.

“India’s synthetic and rayon textiles sector is currently worth US $600 million and exports its products to more than 140 nations around the world”, he added.

Gashaw Debebe, Secretary General at ECCSA said, “As a result of the strong bilateral relationship between the two countries, Ethiopia is witnessing multi-billion dollar FDI from India in various sectors of the economy”.

He continued by saying, “India is one of the major exporters of MMF textiles and is also self-sufficient in production of all types of raw materials. By joining hands, the business communities of the two nations can benefit much from the untapped Ethiopian textile sector”.

Earlier, these Indian exhibitors had hosted an exhibition in Sudan, before partaking in the Ethiopian exhibition.
