A polyamide yarn made with bioactive minerals - Emana, an innovation from a Solvay Group company – Rhodia is one of the winners of the ICIS Innovation Awards 2014, in the ‘Best Product Innovation’ category.

Emana is a smart yarn that absorbs heat from the human body and returns it in the form of infrared radiation. These rays interact with the body and stimulate the microcirculation of blood, benefiting the skin.

Scientific studies by the Solvay Group in partnership with the Kosmoscience Institute have proven that the effects of this yarn range from increased elasticity of the skin to reduced signs of cellulite.

“The benefits of apparel products made with this technology are permanent, regardless of the way or number of times they are washed,” Solvay says.

In the sportswear segment, Emana helps athletes reduce muscle fatigue and recover faster. The benefits have been demonstrated in scientific tests in more than four years of extensive clinical trials.

Solvay informs that Emana technology is proving increasingly versatile in every segment of the textile industry. The latest revolution is the introduction of the technology to jeanswear.

Besides all the benefits of skin care, breathability, lightness and freshness for the clothes, the yarn offers denim jeans an exclusive and unprecedented softness, as well as lightness and a sophisticated look.

The ICIS Innovation Awards recognize companies that innovate in the global chemical industry. The award looks for innovation in products and processes, ways of doing business, and advances in environmental performance and sustainability.

"For the Solvay group, the award for Emana is a source of pride and being recognized as the best product innovation in 2014," says Renato Bonaventure, Director of Global Business Area - Fibras, at the Solvay Group. (AR)
