Westlake Chemical Corporation has awarded a contract to Technip to provide detailed engineering and procurement services to expand the recovery section of Westlake’s Petro 1 ethylene plant in Sulphur, Louisiana, USA.

A statement from Technip said its operating center in Houston, USA, will execute the project, with support from the Group’s office in Mumbai, India.

This award followed from a series of Technip feasibility studies, to help Westlake evaluate expansion options and development of the process design package and front end engineering design for the expansion.

Stan Knez, Sr VP at Technip Stone & Webster Process Technology said, "Technip is pleased to bring its extensive ethylene plant modernization experience and continue its involvement in bringing this important project to fruition."

According to Technip, it has widened its range of services and has reinforced its leadership in the downstream business, since it acquired Stone & Webster Process Technology in 2012.

Technip is into project management, engineering and construction for the energy industry.

From the deepest subsea oil & gas developments to the largest and most complex offshore and onshore infrastructures, its 40,000 strong workforce constantly offers the best solutions and most innovative technologies to meet the world’s energy challenges.

Present in 48 countries, Technip has state-of-the-art industrial assets on all continents and operates a fleet of specialized vessels for pipeline installation and subsea construction. (AR)
