Gujarat State Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation (GSHHDC) is soon set to launch its own e-commerce portal under ‘Garvi-Gurjari’ brand to grow its customer base and increase sales in the global market.

GSHHDC has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with global e-commerce giant eBay and plans to tie-up with domestic e-commerce majors as Flipkart and Snapdeal, a news agency reported.

The marketing and IT head of GSHHDC, B Venkateswarlu said that under the brand ‘Garvi-Gurjari’, the handloom corporation is set to create its own website so that products can be sold through an online platform by April 2015.

The objective to expand sales base from retail shop sales to online market is to increase the market share of handloom and handicraft products of Gujarat, he added.

In the first phase, sale of products will start through eBay, while in the next phase, there will be a tie-up with online shopping websites such as Snapdeal and Flipkart, he said.

Venkateswarlu added that GSHHDC is targeting an increase in sales not only in domestic market, but also in the overseas market through its online marketing initiatives.

GSHHDC works for the promotion of Gujarat’s traditional handicrafts, identifying and reviving important dying crafts, their adoption for contemporary usage and generation of employment and income for rural and urban craftsmen. (GK)
