The 89th Textile Institute World Conference retrospectively honoured the 2013’s winners of Annual Awards, a recognition given by Manchester’s Textile Institute to individuals or organisations for their outstanding contribution to the textile industry.

Dr Peter Dinsdale CText FTI, world president of The Textile Institute and Chairman Trigon Diligence, UK, received The Textile Institute Service Award (Posthumous Award) for his valuable service to the institute.

Mr Michael Williams, Trust Chairman, CapitB, UK was rewarded with the Holden Medal for his exemplary contribution to technology based education at all levels at the award ceremony, which was held in Wuhan, China, recently.

The Textile Institute Research Publication Award was collected by the co-authors of ‘It’s Vintage Darling! An exploration of vintage fashion retailing.’ The recipients were Dr Julie McColl, Catherine Canning, Karinna Nobbs, Louise McBride and Linda Shearer.

Gordon Thomson CText FTI chairman, Lancashire/Cumbria Section of The Textile Institute, UK bagged the Companionship trophy for his work towards the substantial advancement of general interests of the textile industry.

Bangladesh’s DBL Group and Denmark’s Novozymes respectively picked up the Sustainability Award and The Textile Institute Innovation Award.

Dr Xiaogang Chen CText FTI was honoured with The Textile Institute Warner Memorial Medal for the outstanding work in textile science and technology.

Dilip Gianchandani and Dr Sailen K Chaudhuri (both CText FTI consultants, India) respectively received the Section Service Award (for active service towards the national committee) and The Institute Medal (which recognises distinguished service to industry in general and to the institute).

Every year, the Annual Awards ceremony retrospectively honours its recipients (who are chosen under the authority of the institute’s council). The awards for 2014 will be presented sometime in 2015 at a ceremony to be held in Manchester, UK. (PB)
