Bangladesh taps Vietnam for jute export

Vietnamese industry and trade minister Vu Huy Hoang and Bangladeshi textile and jute minister Mirza Azam met recently to exchange views on promoting bilateral cooperation in general and cooperation on textile and jute in particular, the Vietnamese trade ministry said in a statement.

Vu Huy Hoang appreciated the traditional friendly relationship with many similarities and long-term cooperation potential between the two countries. He hoped that friendly relations between Vietnam and Bangladesh would contribute to the national development of Bangladesh in the future.

Along with targets of sustainably economic development and environmental protection, Azam who was leading a Banladeshi delegation, expressed a desire to expand Bangladesh’s export market to Vietnam with jute products which are environmentally friendly. He proposed that Vietnam could use jute bags for exporting products such as rice, tea, coffee, etc.

Vu Huy Hoang acknowledged the quality of Bangladeshi jute and welcomed Azam’s proposal. He suggested that the Bangladeshi delegation should discuss with VINAFOOD I and VINAFOOD II about possibility of importing jute bag from Bangladesh.

The two ministers agreed that it is necessary to implement contents of Protocol of Joint Commission on Trade, Economy, Science and Technology between Vietnam and Bangladesh. Additionally, the two sides need to discuss and negotiate cooperation agreements in all aspects, facilitating trade and investment activities between enterprises of the two countries, the statement said.
