French Apparel Association UFIH (Union Francaise des Industries de l'Habillement) announced that the union welcomes the optimistic result of the meetings between China and the EU on imports growth restrictions.
China and the EU meetings resulted an agreement to curb the growth in exports of 10 textile and clothing products to EU between 8 and 12.5 percent a year. The duration period of the deal is 2005-2007.
UFIH informed that the auto-restrictions for the period of 2005-2007 on the basis of a progression limited to 10 percent per year, accepted by China on the most sensitive categories of clothes is a positive advance in trade relationship between the EU and China.
Claude Tetard stated that a successful negotiation is always better than a declaration of war.
The EU in response accepted to discontinue the investigation into the exports of the 10 categories of Chinese products.
