Textiles, clothing & footwear sales up in Aug

According to Statistical Office of Estonia, the retail sales of retail trade enterprises in constant prices grew 19 percent in August 2006 compared to August of the previous year.

In August, the retail sales of goods of retail trade enterprises were 3.9 billion kroons. The growth rate of retail sales of goods was faster than in the previous year, when the growth was 13 percent. In August the faster increase was in stores selling manufactured goods (31 percent).

In grocery stores, where the increase of the sales has been stable since the beginning of the year, the sales increased 10 percent compared to August of the previous year. Due to large share, grocery stores cover about 35 percent of the increase of the sales of the retail trade enterprises.

Due to the great request, the stores selling household goods and appliances, hardware and building materials are still successful. In those stores the sales increased by 46 percent compared to August 2005. Those stores gave 30 percent of the total increase of the sales of retail trade enterprises.

In stores selling textiles, clothing and footwear positive trend continued, sales increased by 44 percent compared with the same period of previous year.

Other specialized stores, non-specialised stores (with industrial goods predominating) and mail order sale enterprises were also successful (the increase of sales 28 percent, 24 percent and 20 percent, respectively).

Compared to July2006 the retail sales of retail trade enterprises as a whole stayed at the same volume.

In August the net sales of motor trade enterprises were 3.7 billion kroons, which is almost a billion kroons more than a year earlier.

Compared to August 2005, the net sales of enterprises selling motor vehicles and automotive fuel increased in current prices by one third and compared to July 2006 7 percent.
