Textile & clothing export sees a rapid growth

According to statistics revealed by China's General Administration of Customs, country's exports of textiles, clothing and accessories in January grew 18.55 percent year-on-year.

But the growth rate was lower than in comparison to previous months. In November the growth rate was 12.3 percent, in December it was 12.2 percent and 6.7 percentage points lower than that of last year.

Statistics reveal that China's textile exports reached 4 billion US dollars in January, 11.6 percent up year-on-year. Clothing and accessories exports totaled 8.14 billion US dollars, up 22.3 percent.

With the inclusion into the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2001, Chinese textile and clothing companies has sustained rapid export growth.

According to China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Textiles (CCCIET), China's direct textiles and attire exports to the United States has reached 21.9 billion US dollars in 2006, making up 15.24 percent of the United States market, a drop of 1.42 percentage points from the previous year.

China's textile and clothing exports to the United States has seen a rise of 18.1 percent in 2006 compared with 66.09 percent for the previous year.
