Textiles, clothing & footwear retail sales register 35% growth in July

According to Statistics Estonia, the retail sales of retail trade enterprises grew 13% at constant prices in July 2007 compared to July of the previous year.

In July the retail sales of goods of retail trade enterprises were 4.7 billion kroons. The fastest increase was continually in stores selling manufactured goods (19%). In grocery stores the sales increased 8% compared to July of the previous year. Due to the large share, grocery stores cover about 45% of the total increase in the sales of the retail trade enterprises.

Compared to July of the previous year, retail sales increased in most economic activities. Retail sales were the highest in stores selling textiles, clothing and footwear where sales increased by 35% during the year. Compared to June 2007, the retail sales at constant prices in retail trade enterprises decreased by 2%.

The net sales of retail trade enterprises were 5.5 billion kroons, out of which retail sales of goods accounted for about 85%. Compared to July 2006, the net sales increased by 17% at current prices. Compared to the previous month the net sales decreased by 1%.
