According to the preliminary calculations of Statistics Estonia, the gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 7.6% in the 2nd quarter of 2007 compared to the same period in the previous year.

GDP at current prices accounted for 60.9 billion kroons and at constant 2000 prices it was 43.2 billion kroons. The GDP growth slowed down due to a more modest growth in the domestic demand and the value added of economic activities, as well as a considerable deceleration of the growth in exports and imports of goods. At the same time, the raised prices during the previous quarters have substantially influenced calculations at constant prices.

Although the domestic demand grew relatively fast at constant prices (12.6%), the growth has decelerated compared to the quarters of the previous year.

The growth in the household final consumption expenditures decelerated mainly due to the decrease in the expenditures on clothes and footwear, as well as on transport.

Expenditures increased the most on goods of recreation and culture. The increase in capital investments by government and household sectors influenced the most the growth in total capital investments.

By economic activities, the growth in the GDP was mainly influenced, due to a bigger share in gross value added, by manufacturing, financial intermediation, wholesale and retail trade, transport, storage and communication and construction. At the same time, the growth in value added of wholesale and retail trade and construction activities decelerated remarkably at constant prices.
