Indian handicraft expo takes off

Indian Handicrafts and gifts fair, the largest in Asia, commenced its 24th edition in Zimbabwe on October 16. The four-day event has assembled more than 8000 buyers from across the globe and quiet astonishing but true, the fair is only open for overseas buyers.
The event organized by India's Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH), will witness over 2000 exhibitors displaying textiles, jewellery, crocheted goods, art ware, metal ware, and wood ware from various parts of India like Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
Buyers from South Africa, United States of America, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, Russia, United Arab Emirates, and Norway are already in the country for the fair.
India in particular has become one of the major suppliers of handicraft goods to the world market and this present event is one another opportunity for India to encourage its handicraft industry which engages more than six million people.
The number of exhibitors has increased substantially from 313 in 1994 to the present 2000. Besides, aggressive and competitive marketing has also greatly increased the exports of India bringing in foreign currency.
