High demand raises textiles & footwear sales

According to Statistics Estonia, in October the retail sales of retail trade enterprises were 4.7 billion kroons, which in constant prices is 9% more than at the same time a year ago.

In October the fastest increase was continually in stores selling manufactured goods (13%), but compared with previous months the growth rate decelerated even more. The growth rate in grocery stores was also slightly lower in October compared with previous months.

The increase in these stores was 6% compared to the same period of the previous year. Due to a large share, grocery stores covered about half of the total increase in the sales of the retail trade enterprises.

In October the biggest growth was in other specialized stores (28%). The high demand continued in stores selling textiles, clothing and footwear, the sales increased by 20% during the year. Stores selling household goods and appliances, hardware and building materials were also successful, where the sales increased by 13% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Compared to September 2007, the retail sales in retail trade enterprises increased by 3% in constant prices.

In October the revenue from sales of retail trade enterprises was 5.5 billion kroons, out of which retail sales of goods accounted for 85%. Compared to October 2006, the revenue from sales increased 13% in current prices, and compared to the previous month - 3%.
