Textiles & products thereof imports rise in Oct

According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, in October 2007 the Estonian foreign trade turnover was 27.6 billion kroons.a Exports and imports increased compared to September 2007 as well as to October 2006.

In October the exports were 12 billion kroons (43%) and imports 15.6 billion kroons (57%). Compared to October 2006, the exports of goods increased 15%, and compared to September 2007 the exports increased 23%. Compared to October 2006, the imports of goods increased 4% and compared to September 2007 — by 12%.

Compared to October 2006, the foreign trade turnover increased 8% and compared to September 2007 it increased 16%. The trade deficit was 3.6 billion kroons (4.6 billion kroons in October 2006 and 4.2 billion kroons in September 2007).

In October the share of EU countries (EU-27)b in exports accounted for 70% and of the CIS countries 13% of total exports (in October of the previous year the indicators were 67% and 13%, respectively). The main destination countries in exports were Finland (20% of total exports), Sweden (13%) and Latvia (10%).

In October the share of EU countries (EU-27) in imports was 83% and of the CIS countries 9% of total imports (in October of the previous year the indicators were 80% and 11%, respectively). The main consignment countries in imports were Finland (16% of total imports), Germany (14%) and Sweden (10%).

Compared to October of the previous year, there was an increase mainly inthe exports of agricultural products preparations (by 597 million kroons), of transport equipment (by 414 million kroons), and of wood and products thereof (by 223 million kroons). At the same time, there was a considerable decrease in the exports of machinery and equipment (by 99 million kroons).

Compared to October of the previous year, there was an increase mainly in the imports of raw materials and products of chemical industry (by 240 million kroons), of metals and products thereof (by 145 million kroons) and of textiles and products thereof (by 122 million kroons). At the same time, there was a remarkable decrease only in the imports of machinery and equipment (by 508 million kroons).
