Trade ties to further improve in India says Mr Kozlowski

Trade between India and Poland is witnessing an encouraging trend in the recent years. Total bilateral trade was worth $552 million in the first ten months (January-October) of 2006 with balance of trade in favour of India. Trade with India currently accounts for a meager 0.30 per cent of Poland's foreign trade.

Total trade with Poland during this period was up 18 per cent over the corresponding period of 2005. During the previous year 2005 total trade turnover was to the tune of $ 568 million reflecting a growth of 44 per cent, the highest increase in trade turnover since 2001, when the total trade was a meager $ 252 million.

Polish exports to India were worth $ 158 million in the ten months of 2006. The value of Polish imports from India including textiles and chemical products was $ 394 million in the same period which was less then one percent of Poland's global imports. Encouragingly India's exports to Poland during the period has increased by 30 percent.

Mr. Kalantri said that India's major imports from Poland have been equipment for power stations, railway equipment such as wheel sets, rails etc coal mining machinery, ships and ship engines, machine tools, other capital goods and commodities such as coking coal, sulphur, rapeseed oil, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

Mr. Janusz Bylinski, Consul General of the Republic of Poland and Mr. Jerzy Midak, Consul for Trade & Promotion Affairs were also present. The meeting was well attended.
