Agriculture Secretary names Cotton Board members

The newly appointed alternate members are: Jack L. Joy, Artesia, N.M.; Madison Farmer, Lamesa, Texas; June M. Sassler, Parkton, Md.; Scott D. Hyatt, New York, N.Y.; Sarah F. Kay, Charlotte, N.C.; Helga L. Ying, Piedmont, Calif.; and Kristin H. Hughes, San Francisco, Calif.

Mike P. Sturdivant, Jr., Itta Bena, Miss., was appointed to fill the Mississippi alternate member vacancy created by a resignation.

The cotton research and promotion program is designed to advance the position of cotton in the marketplace. It is funded by assessments on all domestically produced cotton and imports of foreign-produced cotton and cotton-containing products, and is authorized by the Cotton Research and Promotion Act of 1966. USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service monitors the program.
