Carrefour, a French retail giant has for a long time eyed Indian markets but in vain. However, recently, industrial sources believe that there is a possibility of merger between this French retail company and the giant Mukesh Ambani's Reliance.
Information on this issue sparked off because of a recently held meeting between the two concerned companies. Moreover, there are talks that Mr Ambani's very close associate, Manoj Modi, may visit France for further discussions.
Nonetheless, the news about a possible tie-up between Carrefour and Reliance is still not verified but the chances remain for it to emerge as a potential partner for Carrefour's cash-and-carry business in India.
What is surprising is the fact that so far, Reliance does not have history of partnership with any company and has very little experience in managing complex joint ventures. However, the merger may help Reliance to overcome its present supply-chain problems.
