While strength and elongation do not differ much between organic and conventional yarns, imperfections in the former are lower by as much as 40%.

Fewer imperfections in organic yarns could be mainly due to the better maturity of fibres. Hence, organic cottons in addition to preserving ecological balance, helps to produce high quality yarns as well.

Some knitted fabric samples were made using organic yarns and conventional yarns. The fabric samples were scoured using enzymes, bleached and dyed.

The colour strength values (K/S) of the dyed fabric samples were assessed using Spectrophotometer and it was found that there was no significant difference in the dyeing behaviour of fabrics made using organic and conventional cottons.

The dyed fabric samples made out of organic cottons were tested for colour fastness to washing, rubbing and light using standard methods.

Colour fastness to washing and colour fastness to rubbing was found to be between 3 and 4 while colour fastness to light was between 4 and 5. Hence, the fastness properties of fabrics made out of organic cottons can be considered as good.
