Holidays around the turn of the year reduced business activities, while cotton quotations in New York steadily increased and the Cotlook A Index also went up.
Firm offers from the origins, especially from West African countries, induced mill buyers to act cautiously and to postpone purchase decisions until the time after the “Heimtextil” fair, as far as no urgent need of covering existed.
In the Upland range turnovers were registered in Central Asian sorts for prompt and further in the 1st quarter 2008; West African types for prompt and for dates in the 1st to 3rd quarter 2008; Greek descriptions for loading in the 1st and 2nd quarter, as well as Brazil cotton for the 3rd and 4th quarter 2008.
In the long- and extra long staple range were traded: Egyptian GIZA 86 and 88 for the 1st quarter 2008, Israel Pima for the 1st to 3rd quarter 2008 and Sudan Barakat for the 1st and 2nd quarter 2008.
