Textile firms head for transitional policies

Surging international competition is making it difficult for textile industry in Carlisle to survive and sustain its production units.

The only two remaining textile firms recently took decisions to bring about major changes in their operating units so as to at least ensure ongoing production. These measures were the need of the hour, since challenges from rival countries and increasing demand for quality and affordable products is making the industries opt for risks.

Falling sales, prompted by fringe customers seeking cheaper prices can be considered as the major factors behind this concerning situation.

A few days back Linton Tweeds informed about nearly 12 jobs likely be lost because of this crisis. Moreover, the John Lewis Partnership said it was going to sell off the Stead McAlpin Cummersdale plant to Apex Textiles. This decision aroused alarm for about 200 of its employees.
