Emir of Qatar inaugurates QAPCO Ethylene Expansion (EP2)

Under the auspices of H.H. Shaikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the Emir of Qatar, QAPCO has inaugurated the Ethylene Expansion Project (EP2) on Tue 9th Jan. 2008. An official ceremony was held on this occasion in Mesaieed Industrial City's (MIC) Celebration Hall.

Present at the ceremony were H.E. Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabor Al-Thani, Prime Minister, and H.E. Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Energy and Industry and QAPCO's Chairman, QP's Board Directors, Some Ministers, ambassadors, Directors of QP and its subsidiaries, high ranking officials from the public and private sectors in Qatar and overseas as well as Chairman of TOTAL, QAPCO's French Shareholders and other delegates.

The Ceremony program included an exciting show about the Ethylene Expansion (EP2), and a documentary film about Qatar and QAPCO's achievements and highlights about the project.

QAPCO, under the patronage of HE Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy and Industry had signed the contract for the expansion of the ethylene existing plant on 25/3/2004 with Japan Gas Company (JGC), as the main contractor for execution of all engineering, Procurement & Constructions (EPC) and with "Stone & Webster", the technology supplier for this project. This contract, valued at 220 million dollars was won after fair international competition bidding.

This project is to further expand the plant production capacity from 525,000 MTPA to 720,000 MTPA and improve the operating efficiencies and to economically utilize the by-products.
