Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores, the leading national fabric and craft specialty retailer, has issued the challenge - create a handmade prom look and enter it into the 2008 Sew Jo-Ann Prom Contest.
Once prom is over and students have had the chance to showcase their unique prom garments, the judging begins. Together with Dritz and Singer, Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores wants to reward the imagination of young sewers.
"Prom is such a memorable time for high school students. What better opportunity to show off a look that is handmade, one-of-a-kind and totally you," said Riddi Kline, Jo-Ann vice president, marketing. "Our hope is that this contest will inspire young sewers across the country to express their creativity."
To enter, students can fill out the entry form and submit two photos of their garment along with a Jo-Ann register receipt that shows the purchase of their fabric. Judging will be based on workmanship, originality and level of detail. Prizes include:
• 1st Place $1,000 cash + Singer 4206 Sewing Machine and Dritz My Double Deluxe Dressform Model no. 20405 (Total value = $1,419.98)
• 2nd Place $500 cash + Dritz My Double Dressform Model no. 20100 (Total value = $719.99)
• 3rd Place $250 cash + Singer 1120 Sewing Machine (Total value = $339.99)
