LANXESS opens 1ast US site for custom manufacturing business

From January 29 to February 1, 2008, the globally operating custom synthesis specialist Saltigo GmbH will showcase itself to visitors at the Informex chemicals trade fair in New Orleans.

This wholly owned subsidiary of the LANXESS specialty chemicals group offers services in three business lines – Pharma, Agro and Specialty Chemicals – across the whole value creation chain from lab to production scale.

Saltigo's activities in custom manufacturing form the basis for a wide range of end products. These include, for example, active ingredients for medicines, herbicides, insecticides and fungicides.

LANXESS Corporation, the U.S. subsidiary of LANXESS, has announced the establishment of a new site in Redmond near Seattle in the U.S. state of Washington to serve Saltigo's growing pharmaceutical business line.

The site, which includes offices, laboratories and technical facilities formerly used by ICOS Corp, a subsidiary of Eli Lilly & Co, will provide Saltigo with an operating base in the United States that will allow rapid response to customers.

Saltigo intends to use the facilities of the kilo lab and pilot plant, both of which meet CGMP standards, to produce active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) for early clinical testing up to and including Phase IIa.

Timothy Fitzpatrick, former Associate Director of ICOS Corp, has been designated manager of the Redmond site, where up to 25 people are to be employed. Work at the new site will commence in stages over the coming months.
