Waverly Wollen Mills, one of the oldest mills in Australia operating since 1874 has incurred a substantial loss forcing board members to hold a meeting today.
The mill has lost one of its most precious contracts with Qantas to which it supplied blankets for first class and business class passengers.
Although it will continue to supply to the airline blankets and duvets for children, the loss will account for nearly 75 percent of the total contract.
Information has also been received about the airline's plan to source cheaper blankets from overseas producers. This will literally force Waverly mills to strive hard in the cut throat competition existing in the market.
It is hoped that the Government would step in to support and aid the mill in continuing its operations.
