Being one of the sixth largest cotton producer in the world and second in the list of largest exporters, Uzbekistan produces about 3.5 million tons of raw cotton and 1 to 1.2 million tons of cotton fiber annually, exporting nearly 75 percent of its total cotton fiber production.

The year 2007 proved quite profitable for Uzbekistan which exported textile products worth US $401 million. In fact, the total volume of finished product's exports rose by 20 percent.
A total of 655.9 billion soums worth industrial goods were manufactured in Uzbekistan for 2007 and this was made possible largely because of the newly introduced production facilities made available to the industry.

Presently, the textile industry of Uzbekistan has the potential of processing and producing some 380,000 tons of cotton fibre, over 300,000 tons of yarn, 336.8 million meters of cotton fabric, 170 million units of knitwear and eight million pairs of hosiery.

However, according statistics, Uzbekistan cotton fibre production dropped 3.9 percent in 2007 to 1.125 million tons. Moreover, production of cotton yarn fell 4.4 percent to 150,258 tons while cotton fabric production went down by 21.7 percent to 130,863 million cubic meters.
