In January, Cotton procurement was relatively poor due to weak demand from downstream textile enterprises because of financial pressures. Sales price of cotton grade 328 increased from 13,581 yuan per ton in beginning to 13,649 yuan by the end of the month. Price averaged at 13,624 yuan per ton, rising by 0.7 percent from the previous month and augmenting by 5.43 percent over last year.
Influenced by tight cotton supply and demand relation, and increasing prices of other agricultural products around the world, international cotton price rose distinctly.
Since September 2007, international price has been consistently higher than domestic price. Global cotton price for the month being translated into C&F (against slide tariff) was 400 yuan per ton higher than domestic price, showing a growth of 280 yuan from the previous month.
